I'll try not to make this sound like my bio. LOL
I'm a neonatal nurse and a science buff.
I'm married and have three teenage kids (four, if you count my husband).
I used to garden and sew, but now I just write. :)
I read romance (mostly western historical), but I also like regency and paranormal. I sometimes read contemporary and romantic suspense. Occasionally I venture outside the genre, into things like crime thrillers.
One of these days, I'd like to retire (from nursing), move to the country, and travel the US.
What are you reading right now?
I just finished The Captive by Grace Burrowes. Excellent!

Which authors influenced you the most?
I always hate this question. So many writers list classics, and I'm ashamed to admit I haven't read nearly as many of those as a writer should.
I'll steal another blogger's answer and say any well-written fiction inspires me. I like brisk pacing, but not so fast the story lacks good character development. I like fresh plots, but I also like the predictability of the HEA in romance.

ReplyDeleteWill sign up Wednesday for the Follow Fest.
And thanks for mentioning the IWSG.
Me, too!
DeleteThanks for fitting it in. I know you're busy. ;)
I've always wanted to live in the country. I've been a city girl all my life and think it would be nice to change settings.
DeleteThanks for visiting, Elizabeth. :)
DeleteBeing a science buff, what topics interest you the most? Biology? Chemistry? Physics? Does that play a large role in your writing?
ReplyDeleteOo. Good question.
DeleteI'd have to say biology and genetics. And yes, it does, especially when I write something with sci-fi or paranormal elements.
I am envious of your knowledge. I'd be interested in reading one of those stories. :)
DeleteHi Melissa,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great idea for a blog hop. I look forward to getting to know my fellow authors :-). Best,
You're welcome, Ava. I'm glad you joined us. :)
DeleteYour other career sounds very rewarding :-) I can't imagine having three teenagers in the house - I have two and that's bad enough!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for organising the blog hop, it's a fabulous idea and I'm excited about meeting so many new people :-)
You're welcome!
DeleteIt's nice to see some fresh names on the list. :)
Hi Melissa,
ReplyDeleteYou seem like you have a busy schedule too. What places do you hope to travel too? That is one of my goals in life to travel all over the world...but I would say on the top of my list is to go to Hawaii so I can see the volcanoes. :)
Thank you for putting together this event.
I do!
DeleteI just want to travel around and see the major sights, visit historical towns, etc. Not sure if I'll ever make it to Hawaii.
You're welcome. :)
Hi Melissa, nice to meet you. I've commented on other blogs that you've commented on...and maybe I've commented on your blog before also...but nice to officially say Hello. You sound busy and I understand busy - I have three/four teenagers, too. So, I'm off to get some writing done.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by. :)
DeleteI said it elsewhere, but thank you for doing this. The 1850's is actually one of my favorite time periods as well :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting! Love to have meet and greets.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. :)
DeleteThanks again for hosting! It's been great to meet folks. I hope you get to follow your dream of traveling.
ReplyDeleteYou bet!
DeleteThanks. me, too. ;)
Hey, thanks for organizing this!
ReplyDeleteI don't think you should feel bad about not having read 'the classics.' I haven't, but it's not hard for me to name books that stay with me long after I first read them. (The tough part is figuring out when to stop naming them!)
Exactly. LOL I was trying to keep my answers brief. ;)
DeleteMelissa, thank you for hosting this wonderful Follow Fest!!!! I love reading romance historical fiction, and wish I could write it!!! I should've done this sooner, but now off to get your book for 99 cents!!!
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! Thanks, Cathrina! :)
DeleteWhat a cool fest!! And you have accomplished so much! I will needs to get your book!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dani. :)
DeleteReally enjoying this Fest! I don't usually read romance, but I do like to step outside of my comfort zone now and then and try different genres. :)
ReplyDeleteMadeline @ The Shellshank Redemption
I do, too, sometimes, Madeline. Thanks for visiting. :)
DeleteMelissa, I'm so bummed I couldn't sign up for Follow Fest this year! The timing is just not good for my crazy life this week. I hope it's a huge success, though, and I'll tweet about RIGHT NOW :) (or today, anyway!!)
ReplyDeleteNo worries, Liz. I understand. You can still hop the links later when you have time. ;)
DeleteWriting fiction is loads of fun. Congrats on releasing your first book this year. The fest is going string, glad you decided to do it again this year Melissa.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sheena-kay. It's work, but I'm having fun. :)
DeleteYou have 3 teens!! Wow, you look great for your age then! Here's hoping you make it to the country!
ReplyDeleteYou are my new best friend! LOL
DeleteThanks, Peggy. Me, too. :)
Hey Melissa this is a great inside view of you. I knew you had kids but I didn't know they were ALL TEENAGERS. My prayers go out to you on that one, my friend. I feel your pain and joy. Ha ha!
ReplyDeletehahaha Love it!
DeleteThanks, Demetria. :)
Melissa, as you know, I was intimidated by this blog hop. Today something told me to go ahead and do it. Since I woke up at 5 a.m. because of my dog, I figured I had the time to create a good post for it--and it was fun! I see I've followed and linked to you in many ways, except for Goodreads, so I sent you a friend request for to make that connection. Thanks so much for creating and hosting this blog hop. It's a wonderful way to build community through blogging. I'm glad to be involved and have already visited and joined many of the fascinating authors participating in this year's Follow Fest.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you took the leap. Contrary to popular belief, we bloggers don't bite. ;)
DeleteOOH! Paranormal romance! LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting this blogfest. What a wonderful idea!
You're welcome! :)
DeleteThanks for hosting this blogfest! It lets us express who we are as co-bloggers! You rock Melissa!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I was happy to do it. :)
DeleteMelissa, this is just the best idea! Thank you for hosting this! I'm sad I missed the blogfest but I'm totally going to spend my afternoon looking through the links and meeting people. <3
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you missed it, too, but it's great you're going to visit anyway. That's why I leave the links up all year. ;)
