Blogger's Block

I made a commitment to blog at least once a month, but I've been staring at this page for 10 minutes, trying to decide what to post. And that's after thinking about it off an on for days.

I could tell you all that's been happening to me and my family, but that's not what this blog is for. I could complain about not making much progress on my current WIP, but then I'd sound like a broken record.

I WILL take a moment to say how much I hate Blogger's new interface. Why must people fix what isn't broken? And why can't they give us a choice to keep the old design?

Part of my blogging block is due to the fact I'm not visiting other blogs as much as I used to. I had to step back from the writing-blogging world to deal with life's responsibilities, and that has caused me to grow further and further out of touch with what's going on in the literary realm. It's proof, at least, that we bloggers feed off each other when it comes to inspiration.

What kind of content do you like most? Tell me in comments. I need some inspiration.

I also would like to find some blogs to visit. If you know of a blogging writer whose blog you haven't seen me comment on or a newbie who needs followers, please leave a link.

  1. Right now the world is so withdrawn that we do really need to stay connected online. What do we need most? Hope.

  2. I'm with you on the whole "fixing" things that aren't broken issue. Ugh.

I'm hoping to get back to a more regular blogging schedule myself - writing posts and visiting - now that things are settling down a bit after moving. We'll see! :)

    1. You will. Be patient with yourself. Moving is a huge job.

  3. I'm also with you on the 'don't fix what isn't broken' thing, but after living with a software engineer for as long as I have, I know they just can't help themselves. :)

I keep saying I'm going to get back to a more regular blogging schedule, but it turns out that I'm mostly just lying to myself about that.

Hope you and your family are well.

    1. I started scheduling it on my calendar and saving placeholder posts. That helped.

  4. I started blogging more than ten years ago. So many of those bloggers drifted away into other subjects or are no longer blogging. I haven't sought out new fiction writer bloggers. I wonder how many newer writers blog now, with Instagram and Facebook offering different ways for staying in touch? FWIW, I rarely know what I'm going to blog about until I sit down to write, but I try to stick to things about books, writing, or my life. Or something funny or inspiring.

    1. I think another part of my problem is the pandemic. What's interesting about wearing a mask for my weekly trip to the store and spending way too much time watching NCIS reruns? LOL Besides work, that's my life. No summer trips or get-togethers.

  5. Ugh, I know, the new blogger design is awful. You thought about a weekly post on how awful it is and how much everyone hates it? LOL That would be cathartic at least.

  6. Changed Blogger and now I also have a new Facebook page design. What?? They are stretching my patience. But, if things didn't change, we'd all be riding around in buggies. Oh wait, just think we couldn't do that if that caveman (or woman) hadn't designed the wheel. "The only thing certain in life is...change."

    1. True, but when you change the date on the scheduled posts from the launch date to the last time the post was edited, that's cruel and confusing. What's the reason for that change? It makes no sense. I've had to start putting the launch date in the title so I can see it.

  7. I'm not a huge fan of the change either. Combine that with the lack of desire to blog (I'm in a bit of a rut, too), and Hmmpf. But there's always ups and downs, so I'm sure the next swing will hit.

  8. Hi Melissa! *wave* From the sounds of it, I'm lucky I moved away from Blogger some years back. I admit to not liking change much myself. They redid the Wordpress interface a while back and I installed a plugin just so I'd have the old design.

As someone who has cut back on blogging myself, I totally understand the difficulty of actually visiting and typing up something for others. It's like I somehow became even more antisocial with the pandemic. Sheesh.

Not sure I've got any content suggestions. Hard to write about writing stuff when there's not much writing going on.

    1. I avoid things with learning curves more and more the older I get. LOL

  9. Hi Melissa!
I’m still struggling with the font sizes in WordPress.
Just when I think I’ve conquered one WordPress obstacle, then a new challenge pops up. You can't win.
Great to see you blogging again.

With regards to blog content, I never know what I'm going to say. At least the monthly IWSG blog hop has an optional question that you can answer if you're stuck with what to say.
With the constant changes to social media platforms, I think the blog is the one platform over which you have total control.
Your blog belongs to you - that can't be changed.
With Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc, you never know when they're going to make changes...
