IWSG - BOO!

This is my Insecure Writers Support Group post for October 2024.

Alex's awesome co-hosts this month are:
Please stop by their blogs and say thank you

💻💻💻💻💻

I've got news! But first, this month's question...

Ghost stories fit right in during this month. What's your favorite classic ghostly tale? Tell us about it and why it sends chills up your spine.

I don't read or watch much scary stuff, because I don't enjoy being scared. If a movie is dark with things jumping out and startling me, I'll shut it off.

In 1979, there was a movie titled When a Stranger Calls that creeped anyone of babysitting age the heck out. This was in the days of landlines, when many phones were still rotary dial. It's not a ghost story, but I'd have to list it as my scariest.

In keeping with the Halloween theme...
This month is the 7th anniversary of FULL DARK: A Benefit Anthology!

This collection of stories is more creepy than scary. It's safe to read with your middle-grader on up. And 100% of the proceeds benefit veterans and first responders.

FULL DARK is available on Amazon and B&N. Consider reading it with your tweens and teens this October. It's something you can enjoy together, and it's for a good cause.

Now for the BIG news. Are you ready?
I saved the best for last.

The most-requested novel in the Forging America series is finally here! Help me celebrate the release of BATTERED PRIDE!

Passion knows no prejudice.

Eva McCabe may have been raised in the genteel tea rooms of North Carolina, but she isn’t one to surrender. Even after finding her husband’s scalped and mutilated body in the field of their Oregon Territory land grant, she refuses to leave. But tenacity won’t be enough. If she can’t meet the grant’s conditions of cultivation, she’ll forfeit her independence and all 640 acres.

Hatchoq is a man of mixed blood and clashing heritage. His father’s people tolerate him, and his mother’s people want him dead. When he kills a rogue member of his clan to save a white, he’s doomed to wander brutal lands alone.

Hatchoq camps on Eva’s land and secretly lends the struggling widow some aid. Once his presence is discovered, Eva is torn between bitterness and need. Reluctantly, they work side by side, farming her land and navigating a burning attraction neither one wants. Love grows as stubborn walls of hurt and anger crumble, but can it survive? If Hatchoq stays, he must deny his Mojave identity or risk both their lives.

The official release date is 10/6/24,

I did my own formatting this time, for both the e-book and print versions. I'd be glad to write about my experience using Atticus if anyone is interested, but in a future post. This one is already way too long. :)

Thanks for visiting!

P.S. Loni Townsend is posting about my new book for part of her IWSG. Please visit and show her some blog love.

❤❤❤❤❤

IWSG is the brainchild of Alex J. Cavanaugh. It's a monthly bloghop that offers a safe haven for writers to express their feelings and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. It's also a venue for offering  support, both in the form of comments and positive posts. Writers of all kinds are welcome.

We 'meet' the first Wednesday of every month. If you're interested in learning more, click on the link above. And don't be intimidated by the size of the group. We're not expected to visit everyone on the list

My main pick isn't a ghost story either but it's still scary.

I remember that movie. The moment when she's trying to get out and the door opens upstairs is heart stopping.

  8. I don't care for scary movies or stories either. I like dark humor, but if there isn't humor, I can only handle a little. Woot for the release! (Sorry, I'm behind on everything, including blog visits!)
