IWSG December

This is my Insecure Writers Support Group post for December 2020.

Pat Garcia,

December question: Are there months or times of the year that you are more productive with your writing than other months, and why?

Yes. Most definitely. During November and December, I usually get less writing done because of the holidays. Although this year has been different.

I took the pandemic-related advice to do my Christmas shopping early, and I had the carpet cleaned (which forced me to de-clutter). That left me with a clean house and very little to do during the latter half of November. Other than putting up the Christmas tree this week, I won't have much to do in December either.

There are other times of the year, such as tax-prep time and months when I have a lot of continuing education to do for my job, that I find it almost impossible to gain any word-count.

But sometimes life surprises me. I love it when I set my expectations low because of a busy schedule and then end up having unexpected time to write. :)

IWSG is the brainchild of Alex J. Cavanaugh. It's a monthly bloghop that offers a safe haven for writers to express their feelings and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. It's also a venue for offering support, both in the form of comments and positive posts. Writers of all kinds are welcome.

We 'meet' the first Wednesday of every month. If you're interested in learning more, click on the link above. And don't be intimidated by the size of the group. We're not expected to visit everyone on the list

  1. Other than my husband's birthday and DLP stuff, I have no obligations this month. Might be time to get some writing done.

  2. Hi,
Setting your goals low enough to achieve them is a good thing. You don't want to set them too high so that nothing gets accomplished. Take care and I wish you a Merry Christmas and a safe passage into 2021

  3. Set expectations low - why didn't I think of that?

  4. That's great that you are so organized for the holidays. I'm not as far as you but pretty close. And for those of us who still work, there are always times when work gets busy and has to come first.

  5. This year is the first time ever I've been able to write in November and December. Usually I'm inundated with holiday prep and birthdays. Not many gatherings this year. And Amazon delivers. I find I'm getting a lot accomplished.

  6. You're inspiring me, Melissa. I've been putting off any cleaning, but I might now be motivated to at least de-clutter these rooms in preparation for some heavy-duty cleaning come spring. Merry Christmas. Happy (I so hope) New Year

  7. Those nice little spurts of writing are wonderful. Glad you got the cleaning done. I should look at doing that myself. My carpets could really use it...

  8. These is always something brewing each month for sure! I have found fall and winter can get me to writin' more at a time.

  9. Get done what you need to and then write. Hope you have a great holiday.

  10. Unexpected bonus writing time is always wonderful to find.

My less productive times come in the middle and end of each school semester. That's when my chemistry tutoring sessions are in highest demand and my writing time disappears. Happy holidays.
