IWSG November - NaNoWriMo

This is my Insecure Writers Support Group post for November 2022.

Alex's awesome co-hosts this month are:
Diedre Knight,
Please stop by their blogs and say thank you

November 2nd question - November is National Novel Writing Month. Have you ever participated? If not, why not?

Nope. I'm one of those authors who wishes NaNoWriMo participants well then disappears for the rest of November.

Why? I work full time in addition to my writing. And, because of the holidays, November and December are two of the busiest months of the year. There's just no way I could squeeze in writing a novel, so I don't even try.

Honestly, I often shake my head at whomever chose November for this. Maybe it's because the kids are finally settled into school, and the weather is turning too cold (up north, at least) to be outside much, but I don't get it. I might participate once I retire, but for now, no thank you.

For those of you who do NaNo, I offer my best wishes and this link:

IWSG is the brainchild of Alex J. Cavanaugh. It's a monthly bloghop that offers a safe haven for writers to express their feelings and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. It's also a venue for offering  support, both in the form of comments and positive posts. Writers of all kinds are welcome.

We 'meet' the first Wednesday of every month. If you're interested in learning more, click on the link above. And don't be intimidated by the size of the group. We're not expected to visit everyone on the list

  1. I have often thought November is not the best month for this. I wish everyone well though.

  2. I've never been able to do it either.

  3. I feel the same way. I have tried a couple of time and found out early that it was not for me.

  4. I've wondered about the November choice too. I've thought, maybe the creators aren't from the US, so didn't think about our holidays? Or maybe they are from the US and hoped to capitalize on the week-long school break that usually accompanies Thanksgiving because they're students or something. Not sure, but it sure isn't convenient for family-centric working people.

  5. I feel this! I work full time and have two kiddos under 5 so I can relate. I started reading a book by the creator of NaNoWriMo and he basically says it started as a joke. Kind of a, "well anyone can write a book" and I think they were all without families and fresh out of college. I DNF'd that book after a couple of chapters :D Have you thought about trying NaNoWriMo in another month? Deadlines like that still won't work for me but thought I'd toss that idea out there.

  6. Oh thank blogs, another full time worker and writer! I start feeling so alone when the NaNo groups begin forming around me and I just sit there nodding along and wishing them well, knowing that will never be me.

  7. I have never even tried. At least I can say I honestly know my limits.
