This is my Insecure Writers Support Group post for November 2021.

November 3rd question: What's harder to do, coming up with your book title or writing the blurb?
Sometimes I know the title of a WIP right away, and other times, it comes to me as I write the story. The title of Precious Atonement came from a line in the book.
Regardless, the blurb takes much more effort. I have to consider the overall message, tone and key words, and then, I have to polish till it shines.
Thanks for visiting.

IWSG is the brainchild of Alex J. Cavanaugh. It's a monthly bloghop that offers a safe haven for writers to express their feelings and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. It's also a venue for offering support, both in the form of comments and positive posts. Writers of all kinds are welcome.
We 'meet' the first Wednesday of every month. If you're interested in learning more, click on the link above. And don't be intimidated by the size of the group. We're not expected to visit everyone on the list.
You are good at polishing!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I polish the finish right off and mess it up again. LOL
DeleteThat's great that your title came to you when you were writing. I hope mine comes soon because I'm almost done with my manuscript.
ReplyDeleteYou could try a book title generator to get your creative juices flowing.
DeleteOften the title is in the story itself.
ReplyDeleteVery true.
DeleteWish my titles came to me like that.
ReplyDeleteYour titles work for your series. That's all that matters.
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteSo true. The blurb takes a lot of effort. I have to put the manuscript aside for a week or two before I tackle the blurb.

Looking at other well-written blurbs can help get the juices flowing.
DeleteI don't like writing them, but once I have one, I feel a whole lot less pressured. Happy IWSG, Melissa.
ReplyDeleteMe, too. It's a huge load off for sure.
DeleteYou are very clever with titles. Thanks for your suggestions on my WIP.
ReplyDeleteI love a word challenge. Have thesaurus, will help. LOL
DeleteI love that title. Happy IWSG day :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog.
DeleteI like your term 'polish it until it shines'. Getting it to that gem-like quality. :)
ReplyDeleteYou've got one of the strongest eyes I know when it comes to blurbs.
ReplyDeleteMe, too :)
ReplyDeleteHappy November!
I hear you're very good at blurbs. I might hit you up for help when it comes time to write my own. ;)
ReplyDeleteI always know the title of whatever I'm working on. But blurbs are exactly as you describe - hard work, that needs polishing.
ReplyDeleteBlurbs positively take much, much more effort, Melissa. I come up with titles, sometimes right away. All best to you, my dear!
ReplyDeleteYeah, getting all that in a measly paragraph(ish) is hard.
ReplyDeleteThe shorter it is the harder it is to get it right. Blurbs....grr.
